DotComUnity c.i.c Social Media Policy

Social media refers to the use of the Internet and web based technologies for the sharing of information, profiles, ideas, thoughts, experiences, opinions and even media itself, between groups of people. These groups range from being small and exclusive, to large and accessible by all. Social media is now accepted as being not only a significant development of the Internet, but also responsible for a major shift in how we communicate, and interact as a society. As individuals, groups and businesses, we are all turning from being content consumers to content producers.

Examples of social media tools include message boards, blogs, vlogs, wikis, podcasts, collaberation tools, lifestreams and communities.

Examples of well known social media websites include Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, Linkedin, YouTube and Twitter.

For marketing purposes and with a view to reaching the wider audience to whom our site is of benefit, we have chosen a handful of social media platforms to help raise awareness of our service. By doing so, we are NOT asking people to join those web sites, but rather asking the existing members of those sites to join US.

DotComUnity c.i.c understands the vulnerable nature of some of it's users and does not advocate or encourage the use of any social media platform by such users without careful consideration and the support and moderation of an appropriate care giver.

That said, we are delighted to support the Special Friends website, which provides a medium for social interactivity specifically for people with learning disabilities and their circle of care. They take their users' security very seriously and we believe they are the way forward if you are seeking such a site. You will find a number of links to Special Friends within the DotComUnity site although be aware that they are not part of the DotComUnity site and the links will open in a new window.
