We advise all users never to submit Personal Information about other people, unless they have that persons informed and express consent and are certain that the submission will be lawful and not infringe that person’s rights, and to be very careful in choosing to submit any of their own Personal Information.

We advise registered users and volunteers not to submit their Personal Information within any Feedback commentary or any other public part of the site that all registered users and potentially anyone else in the world can see.


This Privacy Policy outlines the principles and practices that DotComUnity Directory (“we” or “us”) will follow in protecting your Personal Information (which is any information or data from which you could be identified).

If you register as a user/volunteer of this site the relevant Moderator's will (once you have registered and submitted any information over the site) automatically receive your email address and any information that you submit and will have control of that information and may proceed to post on the site any comments, feedback or other information that you submit via this site or by email to us.

The Moderator will not publish your email address or name and address as a result of you simply registering with the site.

As a registered user/volunteer it is important for you to protect against unauthorised access to your user name, password, and other information, and please be sure to log off once you have finished using the site. This is particularly important if you are using a shared computer.

Children’s Guidelines: If you are under 18 you may only use the site with the involvement of a parent or guardian. We do not ask you to provide your age when registering but if you are under 18 you should only register and supply Personal Information with the agreement and consent of your parent's or guardian's which they can provide by sending us an email.

If we know that you are under 18 then we may decide not to post your submissions on the Forum or site unless we have your parent’s or guardian’s consent but are likely to respond to you by email to let you know that.

1. The information we collect and how we use it

1.1 When you register as a user of this site (for purposes of accessing the Members Area and/or submitting information to the site) we need to know your name and e-mail address. We gather this information to allow us to process your registration and any further information that you send to us and to send you information requested by you. The relevant information is used by us, our agents and sub-contractors to communicate with you on these matters and any other matter relating to your use of this site.
1.2 We may also wish to provide you with information by e-mail about special features of our site or any other service or products we think may be of interest to you. In particular we will keep you informed with regards to DotComUnity Directory updates and full membership opportunities.
1.3 No payments may be made through this site as we do not directly sell any goods or services.

2. DotComUnity Membership

DotComUnity is a membership company, C.I.C and social enterprise. The Directory is owned by DotComUnity on behalf of its members and is provided as a free service to help individuals, businesses, communities and especially anyone with a disability, their families, friends and circle of support

3. Updating your details and cancellation

3.1 You may at any time amend your password, name and/or email address within the Member Area user control panel. Should you need assistance in making any such changes you may email us at directory@dotcu.org.uk.

3.2 You may terminate your user/volunteer status by sending us a cancellation request by e-mail (to our email address provided below) or, if you need to contact us by post, by sending a letter to us at our address as shown below.

4. How to contact us

5. Collecting and Using Personal Information

5.1 We will only collect and process Personal Information that is necessary to fulfil the purposes set out above and:

  • To allow you to register and to allow registered users and volunteers to access the site, including the site’s Members Area and to provide feedback or post comments in relation to third persons who list or advertise their goods or services on the site.
  • For our own records and dealing with requests and for administration of the site.
  • To allow the relevant Moderator's to check information before it is posted on the Website.
  • For contacting you and other users directly about our services that may be of interest as detailed above.
  • To respond to your queries complaints or other contact.

5.2 We will not use or disclose your Personal Information for any additional purpose unless we obtain your consent to do so.
5.3 We will not sell customer lists or personal information to other parties.

6. Retaining, Securing and Providing access to Personal Information

6.1 If a registered user is inactive for a period of 12 months or more we will destroy their Personal Information.
6.2 We are committed to ensuring the security of your Personal Information in order to protect it from unauthorised access, collection, use, disclosure, copying, modification or disposal or similar risks and all Personal Information will be stored electronically and protected by a firewall.
6.3 You have a right to access your Personal Information, subject to limited exceptions, and in the event that you wish to access it please send us an email.
